In Vancouver FX’s Airbrushing FX workshop, students master professional airbrushing techniques from start to finish. Participants learn the essentials of using and maintaining an airbrush gun, mixing paints accurately, working with stencils, and other insider tips used by industry professionals. These skills are adaptable across multiple applications, including automotive airbrushing, illustration, makeup, body painting, and more!

This workshop emphasizes hands-on learning, supplemented with live demonstrations and lectures by the instructor. All required materials, products, and tools are included in the tuition fee. Students are encouraged to bring a notepad for notes and a camera to document their progress. Upon completion, each student receives a certificate signed by the instructor.

Note: No prior experience in airbrushing or art is needed.

In Vancouver FX’s comprehensive Airbrushing FX workshop, students gain the skills to airbrush like a professional from start to finish. This immersive course covers everything from the foundational techniques of handling and maintaining an airbrush gun to the intricate details of paint mixing, color theory, and mastering stencil use. Taught by an experienced industry artist, the workshop introduces a range of airbrushing tricks and techniques used in various fields, allowing students to build confidence in their skills. The principles taught are versatile and can be applied to a wide range of airbrushing mediums, such as automotive customization, illustrative art, special effects makeup, body painting, and more!

Designed with hands-on learning in mind, the course includes both practical exercises and live demonstrations, where the instructor shares insights and tips from their professional experience. Students have access to all the necessary tools, paints, and materials throughout the workshop, all included in the tuition fee. They’ll also be guided through techniques to prevent common mistakes, learn how to select and maintain different types of airbrushes, and explore various ways to create detailed, professional-quality finishes.

Students are encouraged to bring along a notebook for jotting down ideas and a camera to capture their progress as they work on their projects. By the end of the course, students will have completed hands-on projects and received valuable feedback, and each participant will receive a certificate of completion signed by the instructor as recognition of their achievement.

Please note: This workshop welcomes students of all experience levels, and no previous airbrushing or art background is required.

Dallas Harvey – Founder & Lead Instructor, Vancouver FX Studio

 

Dallas Harvey is a special effects artist with expertise in both practical and digital mediums, with over 15 years of experience in special FX for TV & film production. His career includes roles as lead special effects designer, prosthetic sculptor, key special effects makeup artist, and puppeteer on a wide range of film, television, and music video productions.

As a former instructor and author of the Digital Make-Up Design curriculum at Blanche Macdonald Centre, Harvey has also made significant contributions to the industry beyond his FX studio.

He curated the IMATS Vancouver Make-Up Museum from 2012 to 2014 and has been featured in Make-Up Artist Magazine, where he also contributed to the Lab Tech section with insightful columns.

Harvey’s FX work includes designing and creating special effects for Zombies: A Loving History, The Exorcist: Season 2, Alien Ore and most recently Never Let Go starring Halle Berry.
