In one in-depth Saturday workshop, students are taken through the process of creating realistic blood rig effects, including realistic blood hits, running blood effects using applied prosthetics, slit throats, and other gore effects used in film! In this course, students have the opportunity to learn how to rig a wide range of blood delivery methods from simple syringes to full on blood cannons with guts and brain matter.

Description

In the Blood Rigging FX workshop, students learn how to create effective and realistic blood rig effects including blood hits, running blood effects using applied prosthetics, slit throats, and other gore effects used in film. Students will learn various techniques and methods from simple syringes to full on blood cannons featuring guts and brain matter!

This workshop is largely based with hands-on learning and also includes live demonstrations and lectures by the instructor. All products, materials, and tools needed for this workshop are included in the tuition fee. It is encouraged to bring a notepad to take notes and a camera to document your progress as you learn. Upon finishing the workshop, students will receive a certificate of completion signed by the instructor.

NOTE: No previous rigging or practical effects experience is necessary prior to taking this workshop.

Dallas Harvey – Founder & Lead Instructor, Vancouver FX Studio

Dallas Harvey is a special effects artist with expertise in both practical and digital mediums, with over 15 years of experience in special FX for TV & film production. His career includes roles as lead special effects designer, prosthetic sculptor, key special effects makeup artist, and puppeteer on a wide range of film, television, and music video productions.

As a former instructor and author of the Digital Make-Up Design curriculum at Blanche Macdonald Centre, Harvey has also made significant contributions to the industry beyond his FX studio.

He curated the IMATS Vancouver Make-Up Museum from 2012 to 2014 and has been featured in Make-Up Artist Magazine, where he also contributed to the Lab Tech section with insightful columns.

Harvey’s FX work includes designing and creating special effects for Zombies: A Loving History, The Exorcist: Season 2, Alien Ore and most recently Never Let Go starring Halle Berry.
