Description
This five-week introductory course immerses students in the foundational skills and techniques of clay sculpture, guiding them from concept to completion as they create their own detailed busts. The course covers essential aspects of both character and creature design, enabling students to develop unique and expressive sculptures.
Students will begin by exploring original concept development, learning to sketch and refine their ideas before moving into the physical aspects of sculpture. They’ll then be introduced to armature building, creating a sturdy framework that supports their clay busts and allows for dynamic, lifelike poses.
Throughout the course, students will develop proficiency in a range of sculpting techniques, using tools and methods to shape and refine their work. They’ll learn to master the art of blocking out forms, adding layers of detail, and building realistic textures that bring depth and personality to their busts. In addition, students will receive instruction in realistic facial anatomy, focusing on proportions, muscle structure, and fine details such as skin textures and expressions. With each session, students will bring their sculptures to life, combining technical skills with creative expression to produce original character or fantasy creature busts that showcase their personal artistic style.
NOTE: No previous sculpting or art experience is necessary prior to taking this class.
