Description
In the Silicone Prop FX workshop, students are taken through the process of professional life-casting, silicone casting, silicone fabrication, and silicone painting techniques as they create a realistically painted silicone prop severed finger! During this workshop, students will also learn important skills and valuable techniques for building a career as an artist and how to upgrade your skills and portfolio whether you’re an experienced artist or a beginner.
PART 1: Life-Casting & Body-Casting
The instructor will demonstrate how to life cast on a live model creating a hand cast. Students will then cast their own fingers to make a small alginate mold of their own. Actor safety, casting tips, and professional use of products will also be discussed in detail.
PART 2: Silicone Mixing & Casting
Students will follow a demonstration on a high pour and a brush up methods, as well as color theory with specialized silicone paints and pigments. Students will also learn how to mix a realistic flesh tone and either brush or pour their silicone to create the final prop severed finger.
PART 3: Silicone Gore & Casualty Fabrication
Once the students cast their prop, they will then learn how to fabricate additional wounds and textures to create film quality gore and casualty FX.
PART 4: Silicone FX Painting
Lastly, students will learn easy techniques to paint flesh tones with industry standard paints, tints, and pigments as well as how to appropriately matte and gloss the finished prop for a realistic, flawless finish.
This workshop is largely based with hands-on learning and also includes live demonstrations and lectures by the instructor. All products, materials, and tools needed for this course are included in the tuition fee. It is encouraged to bring a notepad to take notes and a camera to document your progress as you learn. Upon finishing the workshop, students will receive a certificate of completion signed by the instructor.
NOTE: No previous art or prop-creation experience is necessary prior to taking this workshop.
